My natural “medicine” cabinet

I don’t know about you but in our household (full) of kids- one of them is bound to be sick or not feeling well at any given time (and then pass it on to us). From my experience, the constant sickness stage starts to taper off around age 4. IT DOES GET EASIER MOMMAS I PROMISE! Our oldest is *gasp* almost 7 and has only been sick once this year-with strep. Alternately-our son, now 2.5 years old-is in the rut of sickness. (strep, diarrhea, virus, runny nose etc.) I am so over doctors offices, antibiotics, and just crap filled meds that docs instantly prescribe. As a result, I’ve had to do a TON of research and trial and error to help my family combat sickness and stay healthy naturally.

WARNING: I’m slightly “crunchy/granola” if you will, so if this method doesn’t work for you, thats okay πŸ™‚ So first off, we have found that our illnesses are short in duration & sometimes last only 24 hours. Im convinced this is because we take JuicePlus every day and drink our Complete shakes on the regular. You can read more about that HERE. We are obsessed πŸ™‚

Stuff we take everyday

    1. JuicePlus gummies (garden and orchard blend)
    2. Probiotics Β ( I get the adult kind at Sprouts, we like SolarRay multi)

    1. DHA (just my 6 year old for now) She has some hyperactivity so we feel this helps calm her down and focus. I love this brand

    1. Garlic oil- Β there are many studies out there that prove garlic is a natural antibacterial, its also great for inflammation. If we have ear aches we also squeeze a gel cap full in the ear-brings so much relief!

    1. Bromelain blend- we have a lot of sinus issues in our family. Mostly allergy induced so my husband and I take these.

    1. Ginger- this stuff has a very special place in my heart haha. Ginger is a life saver during pregnancy too- used for heartburn, nausea, gas or any tummy discomfort.

    1. D-Hist Junior (For my 2 year old’s allergies) My chiropractor sells this for a better price.

  1. Turmeric – We just started taking this because of the anti-inflammatory benefits. It is a pretty strong spice so we prefer the capsules instead of powder. Costco has this now for a GREAT DEAL. (it can be pretty pricey)

stuff we take when sick

    1. Β We always up our dose of the stuff mentioned above first
    2. I really like these Plant Therapy oils. They’re affordable, great customer service, and I feel like they work wonders. I buy the refillable roll ons and just refill them as needed or put them in diffusers. My favorite flavors are “Calming the Child” and “germ destroyer” they have a few others to try that are “Kid-Safe”. I use calming the child on mosquito bites, under the jaw for teething, before naps or bed, or for irritability. Germ destroyer is the one I use after they have already showed signs of illness i.e. cough or sniffles.Β

    1. Home-made elderberry syrup- Im not sure where my sister in law got this recipe but its extremely easy to make and lasts a long time in the fridge. I will occasionally give this to the kids when they are well but I use it every 2 hours when we have a bug! Β Boil water, add all ingredients minus honey. Let simmer for an hour, mash berries in the mixture, pour through a strainer into a glass container, add honey while still warm so it’ll melt. DONE SON. Plus is makes your house smell heavenly.
      1. 3/4 cup Elderberries
      2. 3.5 cups water
      3. 2T fresh or dried ginger root
      4. 1tsp cinnamon
      5. 1/2 tsp cloves
      6. 1/2 cup LOCAL raw honey
    2. IMMUNE AVENGER – I add his to the elderberry syrup.

    1. Zarbees (for cough only)- Costco has the best deal on this!

  1. Calcium Lactate (for fever only)- A natural healthcare specialist told me about this one, you just add it to water. I have yet to notice if it really works as my kids don’t get fevers often but I bought some just in case.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor and I DO NOT claim that this is the end all, be all method for all people. I simply wanted to share what we use and what works for us in hopes that it’ll help someone out there looking for a more natural approach to healthcare.
